Summer Music Festival Time in Marbella

Marbella Arena

Marbella’s renowned party scene is in full flow this month, with the music festival season signalling the start of another hugely entertaining summer for residents and visitors alike.

Earlier this year we gave a sneak preview of some of the main cultural and sporting events scheduled for the Costa del Sol in 2023, and since then the festive program has become even bigger, better and brighter.

If you haven’t already experienced summer on the Costa del Sol, there is no better time than now, with all pandemic restrictions lifted and everyone once again in full social and party-going mood.

It is also an excellent time to put a day or two aside to view some of the excellent properties available from Promas Estates. That way you can make sure you have your own holiday home base for future summer sojourns in this picturesque and fun-filled area of the Mediterranean coast.

In the meantime, here are some of the most popular and eagerly-awaited music festivals and concert events being held over the next few months.

Starlite Marbella

Starlite Festival

Back at the start of the year, such top global artists as Lionel Ritchie (6 July), Anastacia (12 July), Ludovico Einaudi (18 July), Rod Stewart (21 July) and Norah Jones (27 July) were already confirmed for Starlite Marbella – considered one of the most exciting music festivals in the world.

Since then, it has become even more exciting, with additional concert confirmations for Yusuf/Cat Stephens (21 June), Michael Bolton (30 June), Seal (7 July), Tom Jones (10 July), Iggy Pop (2 August), Eros Ramazzotti (10 August), Christopher Cross (12 August) and Black Eyed Peas (23 August).

In addition to concerts, the festival – held in an amphitheatre setting on the outskirts of the exclusive Sierra Blanca residential area – also includes DJ sessions, gastronomy, fashion, shopping and other luxury events and presentations.

Marbella Arena

This relatively new venue, once the Puerto Banús bullring, offers music lovers a diverse array of concerts in a state-of-the-art stadium setting.

The program began in mid-June with a blues festival and will hit top gear on 27 July with The Jacksons, supported by Ray Lewis, former lead singer of The Drifters.

The flamenco musical Carmen will be on stage on 11 August, and Chris de Burgh will be performing on 30 September.

Red Dog Cinemas

In addition to original-language, latest-release movies, Red Dog Cinemas in Puerto Banús also screens classical music, opera and ballet performances during the year.

This year’s festive screening season began on 15 June with a summer concert by the Berliner Philharmoniker under the baton of maestro Zubin Mehta.

Cala Mijas

There have been some changes to the line-up since the start of the year, but The Strokes, Florence + The Machine and Arcade Fire will still be headlining Cala Mijas from 31 August to 2 September.

M83, Underworld and Baxter Dury have been added to a schedule that includes 30 performances over three days at the Sonora venue in Mijas.

Marenostrum Fuengirola

UB40 Marenostrum Fuengirola

Too late now for Robbie Williams fans to catch the British star at Fuengirola’s Marenostrum venue (at the foot of the 10th century Sohail Castle) but the best tickets for his 15 June concert were sold out months ago anyway.

Still coming up, however, are Ultra Beach on 24 June and UB40 on 30 July, as well as numerous top Spanish and Latin American stars of the past and present for those who like to discover and enjoy local sounds.

La Reserva Club Sotogrande

Located in the heart of the luxurious Sotogrande residential estate, La Reserva Club is mostly known for its golf course (which has hosted top Ladies European Tour events) and innovative inland beach, but it also offers visitors an impressive social and cultural agenda.

Setting the mood this summer, on 23 June, is a candlelight dinner and concert by some of the world’s most talented musicians performing a variety of famous pieces.

Sabatic Fest

Running from June to 24 September, the Sabatic Fest is held at Autocine Málaga Cesur FP, an outdoor cinema and cultural complex on the outskirts of Málaga city which also offers exhibitions and food trucks.

This year’s concerts include the Málaga Reggae Salute Festival on 22 July and Gloria Gaynor and Bonnie Tyler on 15 August.

Weekend Beach Festival

At the eastern end of the coast, in Torre del Mar (Vélez-Málaga), the Weekend Beach Festival runs from 5 to 8 July.

Nearly 100 international and Spanish artists and DJs will be performing over the four days, including British electronic rock band Editors and American electronic music producer and DJ Carl Craig.
